Greece to host Olympic qualifying tournament

The FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men is to take place in Athens, Greece, according to a decision by the Central Board of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), which met and made the decision in Chicago from December 7 to 9.Brazil, Cape Verde, Canada, Cameroon, Croatia, Germany, Greece, the Republic of Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and Slovenia will compete for three Olympic berths at the 12-team FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men.
The tournament will take place at the 18,000-seat OAKA Sports Arena located in Maroussi from July 14 to 20, 2008. The participating teams will compete in four groups that will be determined by lottery on January 31, 2008 in Athens.
Nine other teams have already qualified for the men’s Olympic Basketball competition: China, Angora, Argentina, Australia, Iran, Lithuania, Russia, Spain, and the United States.
The men’s Olympic Basketball competition will be held from August 10 to 24, 2008 at Beijing’s Wukesong Indoor Stadium.
